Background

Dr. Flattery graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder where he became an avid outdoor enthusiast. He continued his education at Western States Chiropractic College (summa cum laude) and later at National College of Naturopathic Medicine where he graduated in 1999.

Affiliations

Dr. Flattery is a faculty and board member of the Naturopathic Academy of Therapeutic Injection. He teaches other physicians in the philosophy and techniques in a variety of regenerative injection therapies, as well as writing articles for various journals. He has been published in “The Cure for Chronic Pain,” by Nancy S. Moore, PhD, RN with a forward by Ross Hauser, MD as an expert in the field of regenerative medicine. Dr. Flattery works with Professional and Olympic athletes on both a national as well as international level.

Dr. Payson Flattery is Bend’s only board-certified naturopathic physician focusing exclusively on the treatment of orthopedic pain and injury at his clinic, by utilizing regenerative medicine with naturopathic and conventional medicine in healing.

Dr. Flattery has specialized in Regenerative Medicine for over 16 years. His strength lies in his ability to accurately assess not only a patient’s pain generator but also the aberrant movement patterns that often lead to injury, pain, and dysfunction. Dr. Flattery trains physicians in a seminar setting, providing instruction in not only injection technique, but also accurate physical exam and diagnosis.

Many physicians have a point and inject approach often chasing pain and missing the actual pain generator. It often the connective tissues (tendons ligaments and fascia) that refer pain and govern the movement of the joint that require treatment as well. This provides more complete and longer lasting relief after treatment.

Dr. Flattery, a Bend naturopathic physician, incorporated Diagnostic Ultrasound into his regenerative medicine clinic and practice over 10 years ago. This modality allows him to visually assess injured tissue (i.e. rotator cuff tears) and guide injections for better treatment outcomes.

Although treating all pain and dysfunction, his areas of focus include: Sports Medicine, Chronic Pain, Osteoarthritis, and Post Surgical Pain. As a Bend area naturopathic physician with a successful regenerative medicine clinic, he also has a special interest in spine given his initial training as a chiropractor.
